I Don’t Want Any Blue Savages Playing on My Team

Here’s a new rule for life: if someone says “I’m not a racist, but–“, they are racist.

Case example.

Basketball league for white Americans targets Augusta

The All-American Basketball Alliance announced in a news release Sunday evening that it intends to start its inaugural season in June and hopes Augusta will be one of 12 cities with a team.[…]

“Only players that are natural born United States citizens with both parents of Caucasian race are eligible to play in the league,” the statement said.[…]

Don “Moose” Lewis, the commissioner of the AABA, said the reasoning behind the league’s roster restrictions is not racism.

“There’s nothing hatred about what we’re doing,” he said. “I don’t hate anyone of color. But people of white, American-born citizens are in the minority now. Here’s a league for white players to play fundamental basketball, which they like.”

Seriously? I’m having difficulty construing how this can be construed as anything but racist. It’s almost indistinguishable from parody. If this occurred in a movie and Mr. “Moose” Lewis was the antagonist, the movie would be criticized because the villain was way too cartoonish. The freaking Colonel in Avatar is more nuanced then this guy. Yet here he is, in real life’s splendid 3D.

I wonder if ABBA will sue him over the acronym.

Very interesting. The new league is certainly not “politically correct” and probably is illegal. We’ll see.

MSSU has a woman’s only basketball team and a men only team. Is that sexist and thus illegal?

The NBA has an “integrated” league (racially not sexaully) but what, 80-90% of the players are black or “foreign” born. Where is the “equality” in that situation?

No doubt this new league will not play basketball nearly as well as one allowing blacks to play. Face it blacks are much better basketball players or do you debate that point as well, strictly from an athleticism point of view?

Being a “lousy” (by comparasion to integrated teams) league, they will probably “die” on the vine. No one will pay money to watch the league other than a bunch of “Bubbas” to use Duane’s term. Is that a fair choice to allow those investing in the league to make or is simply far too “politically incorrect”?

Are these racist questions above or questions for freedom?

Now do you want to talk about what food to serve in your new restaurent?

    Horse Abuser,

Before I begin, you need to know that there’s another, similar rule regarding the phrase “politically correct.” https://johnnykaje.wordpress.com/2009/11/08/how-i-found-out-i-was-politically-correct/

Most of your questions can be answered with one word: privilege. Why is there a Black Entertainment Channel, and a Women’s History Month, but no White Entertainment Channel and Men’s History Month? Because the latter have privilege. Most channels are White Entertainment Channel, and most months are Men’s History months. They just don’t get called that, because white males are the default American.

Funny you should mention “natural born athleticism.” It’s difficult to determine how much of it is indeed a natural born, “ethnic” advantage, and how much of it stems from culture and opportunities. Before blacks were allowed into leagues, you know who was assumed to have the “natural ability” to play basketball? Jews! Sports writers and evo-psych people attributed this to “natural Jewish traits,” such as “shiftiness”. Now blacks are suddenly “naturally adept”. How to tell what’s natural, and what’s sociological?

Men and women are separated, on the other hand, because there’s little disagreement that men and women have physical abilities that can’t be waved away by sociology. When you have no segregated teams, very few women will get to play besides the unusually gifted; look at high school football teams with a single female player. Good for her, but not so good for the vast majority of girls that want to play football. Sports with women’s teams and leagues, like basketball, allows them those opportunities.

“Are these racist questions above or questions for freedom?”

LOL. You make it sound so noble. No one’s saying someone can’t be free to be racist. We’re just mocking him, which we’re also free to do. And free bodies of individuals like the people in Augusta are also free not to associate with him.

“Now do you want to talk about what food to serve in your new restaurent?”

I have no idea where this question came from, but I have this idea with serving hamburgers in pita pocket bread, so all the inside crap doesn’t fall out the back of the sandwich. You think that’s enough to float a restaurant?…”Johnny Kaje’s! Where the crap in your burger doesn’t fall out the back!”
